A documentary filmmaker cuts to the heart of farming and rural life. A Blackfoot multidisciplinary artist expresses her culture’s values and history in her art-making. A writer sets a ‘coming of age’ story in Edmonton’s largest shopping mall. A distinctive poetic voice details the world around her as a trans woman…. Visual artists, a dancer, a playwright, writers, poets, violinist – each one of this year’s Emerging Artists are creating art and telling stories deeply rooted in – and influenced by – Alberta.
“These 2024 Emerging Artists challenge and enhance our imagination”, says Her Honour Salma Lakhani, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta. “Through their work, we are able to deepen our understanding of ourselves and the ways in which we view and position ourselves in the world. My sincere congratulations to all this year’s recipients!”
The Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Arts Awards Foundation announces awards totaling $100,000 to the 10 recipients of its 2024 Emerging Artist Award.
