Kyle Thomas

Kyle completed a BFA at the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema at Concordia University, Montreal, before returning to Calgary to establish a body of short film work.

He was director, writer, producer and editor of the 2011 film, Not Far From the Abattoir, which received awards for best short film at both Calgary and Edmonton International Film Festivals, and was an official selection at SXSW (Austin TX). This film was also invited to screen at Telefilm Canada’s Not Short On Talent market showcase at Cannes in 2012. His film, The Post, was invited to screen in the same showcase at Cannes in 2013.

Kyle was producer and composer for Numbers & Friends (2013) and Black Hills (2012), and directed, edited, and composed for The Liminal State of Decay (2010). He added the cinematographer role to editor and composer for Ghost Town (2008).

Kyle, who works as part of the North Country Cinema collective in Calgary, is currently in post-production on his first feature film, The Valley Below, a multi-narrative drama set in the badlands of central Alberta. Later in the year, he will begin development of his second feature film, Wheat Kings, another character-based drama devoted to exploring life in rural Alberta.
