Edmonton…The eight recipients of The Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Emerging Artists Awards announced today practice hip hop, theatre, visual art, film, opera, writing, soul music, R&B and more.
“There is no shortage of creative energy in Alberta, said His Honour Col. (Ret’d) the Honourable Donald S. Ethell. “These artists have talent, but they also have relentless focus and drive. They are representing us to the world with distinction.”
In a private ceremony at Government House, Lieutenant Governor Ethell presented medals and a $10,000 award each to Daniel Bennett, a.k.a. Transit (Calgary), Jenna Butler (Edmonton), Tracy Cantin (Chicago and born in Red Deer), Nuela Charles (Edmonton), Heather Inglis (Edmonton), Josée Aubin Ouellette (Edmonton), Jennifer Quist (Lacombe), and Kyle Thomas (Calgary). The eight were selected from nearly 200 applications in a two-tiered adjudication process overseen by The Banff Centre.
