What a loss to our province and to its arts community with the passing of
our dear John Murrell, playwright and librettist. In 2005 John Murrell and architect Douglas Cardinal were celebrated as the inaugural Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Distinguished Artist Award recipients. In his words he “… felt both honoured and humbled, to feel a part of the remarkable creative community which has thrived in Alberta for so many years.” He was the embodiment of what the Distinguished Artist Award is meant to honour and celebrate. John Murrell will be greatly missed.
