Tracy Cantin

2014

“on the cusp of an international career.” The critics couldn’t agree more. The Chicago Classical Review describes her voice as “luminous.” The Guardian says, “warm and focused.” La Presse describes “a voice capable of strength and extraordinarily accurate virtuosity.”

Cantin was born in Red Deer, raised in PEI, and returned to Alberta to earn a BMus at the University of Alberta. She followed this with a master’s degree (UWO) and an Artist Diploma (McGill) before being accepted into the prestigious Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center Young Artist Training Program at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Cantin is currently entering her third and final season in the program, which has given her the chance to understudy some of today’s leading sopranos, perform alongside today’s greatest singing actors, and work under the direction of leading conductors.

In the 2013/14 season, Tracy made her international concert debut as the soprano soloist alongside bass-baritone Bryn Terfel in two performances of Beethoven’s Symnphony No. 9 under the baton of Sir Andrew Avis with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. She also made her Ravinia Festival (Chicago) debut performing as the soprano soloist in the newly re-orchestrated World Premier of Berstein’s Songfest.

Cantin’s plans for the future are simple: “to continue to learn from the greatest artists of the day, to hone my skills to the best of my ability, and to proudly make a living as a Canadian performance artist on the great stages of the world.”
