“Her poetry demonstrates a clear vision, and amazing use of language.”

– Emerging Artist adjudicators

Jenna Butler is a poet, essayist, publisher, editor, educator and … small-scale organic farmer.

She is known for her three books of poetry, Seldom Seen Road, Wells, and Aphelion, and will have a book of essays, On the Grizzly Trail, published in 2015. These essays capture her experiences of the cold-climate, small-scale organic farming she and her husband practice in northern Alberta.

Jenna teaches creative writing and literature at Grant MacEwan University and was the 2014 Writer-in-Residence for the Alberta Branch of the Canadian Authors Association. In the 2014/15 year, Jenna will travel as writer-in-residence or guest instructor to Ireland, Greece, the Arctic Circle, and Latvia.

Jenna is also an editor and reader for a number of presses as well as being founder of Rubicon Press, which she founded while pursuing doctoral studies at the University of East Anglia in the UK. Jenna continues to keep one foot firmly planted in Europe’s literary community and has done readings across the UK, in Spain, Italy and Greece, as well as the US.

Jenna is an active volunteer, sitting on the boards of the Edmonton Poetry Festival and the Olive Reading series.
