Colleen Brown is a folk-influenced artist inspired by the vast array of music she was exposed to, growing up in Alberta. From Gordon Lightfoot to Joni Mitchell to Neil Young, Brown’s music is enriched by these artists and her natural curiosity is evident in her songwriting.
She grew up studying classical piano and voice, and musical theater in her home town of Lloydminster. She then moved to Edmonton to practice music at Grant MacEwan College in the vocal performance program.
Colleen self-funded and released her first all-original full-length album entitled A Peculiar Thing, which came out in 2004 and left audiences thirsting for more. In 2007 Colleen quenched our thirst by releasing her second album, Foot in Heart. It is a rich, warm-blooded experience, built around Brown’s talent for matching natural melodies to her unique voice.
Colleen showcased her five-piece band at the Western Canadian Music Awards Festival here in Edmonton this month, and will debut her first professional music video for the song “Love You Baby” at the Urban Lounge Thursday November 6th. She also plays bass and sings with an all-female rock band The Secretaries.
