Calgary (May 16, 2016)…The Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Arts Awards Foundation is awarding a total of $100,000 to the 10 recipients of its 2016 Emerging Artist Award.
“When economic times are tough, artists are especially vulnerable,” says Foundation Chair Phil Ponting. “We are pleased to be able to invest in advancing the careers of these outstanding young artists:”

- Michael Bridge, accordionist, Toronto
- Jason de Haan, visual artist, Calgary
- Michael Hingston, writer, Edmonton
- Jessica Jalbert, performer/songwriter, Edmonton
- Tyler Los-Jones, visual artist, Canmore
- Amy Malbeuf, visual artist, Rich Lake
- Hans Olson, filmmaker, Edmonton
- Bradley Somer, writer, Calgary
- Caitlin Wood, soprano, St. Albert
Her Honour Lois E. Mitchell, CM, AOE, LLD, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta will present the medals and awards at a private ceremony at Government House in Edmonton June 13.
The 10 recipients were selected from 177 applications in a two-tiered adjudication process overseen by The Banff Centre. The adjudication panel included: Carolyn Warren, VP Arts The Banff Centre (non-voting); Peter von Thiesenhausen, visual artist and 2015 Distinguished Artist Award recipient; Kimberly Cooper, artistic director Decidedly Jazz Danceworks; Bradley Moss, artistic director of Theatre Network; John Tessier, assistant professor, voice, University of Alberta; David Ward, content director, CKUA; Shelley Youngblut, general director Wordfest.
