“Josée is intelligent, curious, and prodigiously productive….driven by a desire to understand and to connect herself and her work to the world around her.”
– Emerging Artist adjudicators
Josée’s Aubin Ouellette’s multi-disciplinary work grew from an interest in large-scale, still-life painting, to creating spaces that integrate visual art with theatre and literature. Her works include painting, sculpture, photography, installation, video and creative writing.
Born and raised in Edmonton, Josée is a BFA graduate from the University of Alberta and earned an MFA from the Glasgow School of Art. She exhibited in the UK and Germany before returning to Canada in 2012, living in Edmonton and Montreal. She maintains strong ties to Alberta, including a show in spring of 2014 at the Milk at Harcourt House Artist Run Centre in Edmonton. She has also recently shown at the Walter Phillips Gallery at The Banff Centre and Axenéo7 in Gatineau.
Josée has participated in residencies at The Banff Centre and The Gushul Studios in the Crowsnest Pass. She is currently engaged in a new body of work that integrates creative writing with her objects-making practice, related to research she plans to undertake in the visual arts PhD program at The Edinburgh College of Art, starting in 2015.
