– Emerging Artist adjudicators
Soul Train, the final word on soul, named Nuela Charles one of the artists to watch in 2014. The Canadian, Swiss and Kenyan singer-songwriter has been described as blending hip hop, moody trip-hop, retro soul, R&B, pop, and jazz, “a smooth, triumphant, star-in-the-making.”
She’s been nominated twice for a Western Canadian Music Award and is a three-time Edmonton Music Award winner. Nuela was highlighted during the CBC National Searchlight Contest and called, “The future Queen of Canadian Soul.”
Nuela has filled venues like The Club at the Citadel (Edmonton) as part of a two night headlining series, The Bassment (Saskatoon) and the Jack Singer Concert Hall (Calgary) when she opened
for Ziggy Marley. Nuela has also appeared in the TransCanada Alberta Music Series (Calgary), Edmonton Jazz Festival, and K-Days (Edmonton), where she was one of the opening acts for CLASSIFIED. Several of her songs have been licensed for television sound tracks. Her second album was also released in Japan and prompted tours of both Canada and Switzerland.
